They possess expertise and experience to identify technical needs, problems or gaps in technology that are not readily apparent. They participate in professional and/or technical societies and are active in technical committees for professional societies. They typically author and present more than one technical paper per year.
A Bachelor's degree in engineering or science, or its equivalent plus at least 20 years' broad experience in the field of specialization, plus responsible administrative duties are required. A master's degree or PhD in engineering or science is preferred but is not mandatory.
A staff member in this category must possess a PE license or other professional certification.

Their assignments are of limited scope and complexity, usually minor phases of broader assignments. They use a variety of standard engineering/scientific techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. They participate as members in professional and/or technical societies relevant to their field and contribute to published papers and articles.
A bachelor's degree or above in engineering or science or its equivalent, plus a minimum of 2 years' working experience after obtaining the bachelor's degree is required. A PhD with research in a field relevant to the job position may be substituted for working experience.
Staff members in this labor category must be working toward or have already obtained PE license or other professional certification.

The Engineer performs tasks assigned by project managers of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific narrow area of assignments. Tasks include design and development, hazard analysis, testing, preparation of specifications, process study, research/accident investigation, activity support, checking numerical accuracy of calculations, report section preparation, and other activities. The Document Editor provides substantive writing, proofreading, editing and copyediting for a variety of documents to include reports, articles and manuals. They ensure accuracy in the use of grammar, content, and company-wide consistency with styles and formatting of documents. They create graphs, charts, schematics, tables, figures and drawings for use in technical reports and a variety of technical/scientific documents. They are proficient in the use of Microsoft software.
A high school diploma/GED and 4 years of college are required. No years of experience are required, but each year of experience can be substituted for a year of education.

The Engineering Technician performs tasks assigned by project managers and engineers requiring hands-on activities consistent with testing technician support. Tasks include test preparation, test fixture fabrication, conducting tests, instrumentation installation, test result reporting, equipment and facility maintenance and clean up of test area. Primary responsibility is to support BakerRisk testing projects at the Wilfred E. Baker test facility and at the Nell Test Range.
The Technician must have 2 years' experience in hands-on support that would be applicable to serving as a testing technician. Basic computer skills are required as well as use of common hand, power and specialty tools and ability to learn new construction techniques.

Using CAD, the operator draws details for the design and development of blast hardened structures, hazard analysis diagrams, test configurations, preparation of design and testing specifications, process study sketches and research/accident investigation reporting. Other responsibilities include support of structural design detailing, drawings, and specification for the upgrade of blast resistant buildings. Thorough understanding of building framing and associated structural design drawings for conventional buildings is required and Technical decisions are of a routine nature with clearly defined procedures as guidance.
A degree in a Certified CAD curriculum and a minimum of 3 years' experience in CAD structural drafting are required.

They track, compose or compile alphabetical and numerical information for use in a variety of areas and ways. They work directly with customers and project staff to ensure that the communicated goals are achieved and deadlines are met. They perform tasks, as assigned, independently and completely within their areas of expertise. They are proficient in the use of Microsoft Software and are comfortable with computer operations.
A high school diploma/GED and 4 years of college are required. No years of experience are required, but each year of experience can be substituted for a year of education.

The Engineering Intern applies standard engineering/scientific techniques, procedures, and criteria as assigned by technical staff. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and do not require investigating any new variables.
Interns are required to be working to obtain a bachelor's degree in engineering or science from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent; no years of experience are required.
