This course is intended to give participants an overview of the PHA/LOPA process by teaching techniques and tools to assist in guiding teams through the qualitative risk analysis process.
The PHA/LOPA portion of this combined course consists of one day in-person with two days of eLearning courses. eLearning modules will be sent before the start date with two days’ worth of material.
Participants will learn techniques and tools to assist in guiding teams through the qualitative risk analysis process. This course will cover a basic understanding of best practices in a successful process hazard analysis and semi-quantitative tools like LOPA . At the end of the course, participants will have the ability to practice techniques and tools covered in mock PHA/LOPA sessions to better prepare them for participating in an actual study.
Process safety managers, engineers, operators, or I&E/Maintenance, project engineers, or anyone else who is anticipated to be involved in a PHA study, whether for an operating company, for an engineering company, or as a consultant.
To acquire the skills to become an effective PHA and LOPA facilitator and/or team member.
In the Hazards Awareness portion of this combined course, you’ll learn about actual industry events. See what has caused the incidents that have shaped our industry and discuss the lessons learned. In the second half of the day, visit the Wilfred E. Baker Test Facility (Scull Crossing) in-person to witness an actual loss of containment event. Feel the heat of a jet fire on your face and the pressure from a vapor cloud explosion on your chest. You will be able to return to work with a new understanding of how hazards become incidents.
Participants will learn about historical incidents that have shaped the process safety industry, the physics behind accidental releases, vapor cloud explosions, fires, and structural response to these hazards. You’ll feel the thump on your chest from explosions and the heat of a jet fire on your face, giving each participant an appreciation for process hazards in a safe and fun environment.
