Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the Explosion Research Cooperative

The Explosion Research Cooperative (ERC) is a joint industry research program founded and organized by Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk) in 1993.

In 2018 the ERC will complete 25 years of experimental and analytical research for companies interested in understanding and predicting explosion hazards and their consequences on buildings, process equipment, and people. The studies conducted in this program for companies in the chemical, petrochemical, and refining industries yield valuable data that can be used for characterizing, preventing, or mitigating explosion hazards, assessing the siting of occupied buildings, designing protective structures, and upgrading existing buildings to withstand blast loads and related hazards.

The research from this program is funded by ERC participants, which empowers the participants to resolve common problems in their industries with the results and benefits shared by all participating companies. The topics, scope of work, and budgets for the studies are defined by vote of all participating companies at ERC meetings.

The current ERC participants and BakerRisk welcome the participation of additional companies in the program to benefit from the knowledge gained from this research in improved explosion safety. This year, BakerRisk is expanding the ERC by establishing a Middle East Chapter, which will allow those Participants to pool their funds and share information with the existing ERC Participants.
