A recent research program has generated uniform static and dynamic shock tube test results for unreinforced masonry walls retrofitted with spray-on polymers. The test program provided comprehensive static and dynamic data for developing SDOF based analytical models for three different polymer product applications. Two CMU wall thicknesses and two polymer application thicknesses were incorporated into the test program. The test data included mid-height displacement and support reaction time-histories. Multiple tests were run on several wall specimens, which allowed collecting dynamic response data in the light (Minor), moderate (Medium), and heavy (Severe) damage regimes for all three products.
Mr. Idriss is a member of BakerRisk’s Structures Group. His work focuses on incident investigations involving reactor explosions, pressure vessel ruptures, vapor cloud explosions, and other energetic events resulting in structural damage and fire with injuries and fatalities. Mr. Idriss also performs physics-based structural and blast analysis calculations, as well as laboratory incident recreation to assist in the determination of event root cause scenarios. Currently, Mr. Idriss manages BakerRisk’s Wilfred E. Baker Test Facility, which executes a series of investigations, including: high-speed projectile behavior, flammable material dispersion, jet fire, custom and specialty testing and experiments for clients world-wide such as litigation support.
Mr. Lowak is a member of BakerRisk’s Testing Group. He has 20 years of professional experience, with a focus on the design and evaluation of structures subjected to impulsive loadings. His dynamic testing efforts include research and developmental testing, as well as proof testing of structural components and systems loaded by dynamic loadings. Mr. Lowak also provides structural analysis consulting for blast resistant structures with specialty in blast resistant glazing systems and doors.
As the biofuels industry continues to expand in support of global decarbonization mandates and objectives, facility owners and developers are being challenged to balance production efficiency, operational reliability, and personnel safety.
As high hazard facilities, biofuels sites should focus on developing a fire protections strategy informed by performance-based analysis so strategies implemented meet the unique challenges found at each facility.
