Both well-known and not so common corrosion mechanisms found in Urea Plant piping and equipment can result in equipment failures and costly downtime. Examples of corrosion damage mechanisms are presented, including carbamate corrosion, and stress induced intergranular corrosion cracking. Discussion considers both short- and longer-term impacts, as those conditions affect the Mechanical Integrity planning and inspection management programs.
As the biofuels industry continues to expand in support of global decarbonization mandates and objectives, facility owners and developers are being challenged to balance production efficiency, operational reliability, and personnel safety.
As high hazard facilities, biofuels sites should focus on developing a fire protections strategy informed by performance-based analysis so strategies implemented meet the unique challenges found at each facility.
