Detonation of a weapon or other explosive inside a typical building produces blast waves that propagate throughout the building. For most office-type interior construction, that propagation requires the failure of the lightweight partition walls generally constructed of wood or metal studs with gypsum sheathing. In the course of that failure and subsequent interaction of the blast wave with the wall materials, the wave is distinctly altered.
Mr. Bogosian is a member of BakerRisk’s Structures Group. Mr. Bogosian’s work focuses on the design, analysis, and upgrade of structures subjected to blast and impact loads. Areas of practice include industrial facilities (for buildings subjected to accidental explosions), conventional and nuclear weapons effects, anti-terrorist design, and explosive safety for manufacturing and storage facilities. Project management experience ranges from small and straightforward to multi-year R&D programs for the US government.
Mr. Lowak is a member of BakerRisk’s Testing Group. He has 20 years of professional experience, with a focus on the design and evaluation of structures subjected to impulsive loadings. His dynamic testing efforts include research and developmental testing, as well as proof testing of structural components and systems loaded by dynamic loadings. Mr. Lowak also provides structural analysis consulting for blast resistant structures with specialty in blast resistant glazing systems and doors.
As the biofuels industry continues to expand in support of global decarbonization mandates and objectives, facility owners and developers are being challenged to balance production efficiency, operational reliability, and personnel safety.
As high hazard facilities, biofuels sites should focus on developing a fire protections strategy informed by performance-based analysis so strategies implemented meet the unique challenges found at each facility.
