The SBEDS workbook was developed by BakerRisk for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Protective Design Center as a tool to be used by structural design engineers to satisfy Department of Defense (DoD) antiterrorism standards. It is intended to be used by structural engineers experienced in structural dynamics and blast effects for designs in accordance with the “Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings (UFC 4-010-01).
Mr. Polcyn is a member of BakerRisk’s Structures Group. Mr. Polcyn is highly experienced in the analysis and design of a wide variety of structures subject to blast or impulsive loads from accidental explosions and security threats, having worked for over 30 years specifically in this field. His work focuses on the project management of several large multi-disciplinary research programs on explosion consequences and blast response of buildings and structural components. He is also involved in several projects assessing the response of buildings to blast loads and the development of structural upgrades. In addition, Mr. Polcyn is regularly involved in the investigation of accidental industrial explosions.
As the biofuels industry continues to expand in support of global decarbonization mandates and objectives, facility owners and developers are being challenged to balance production efficiency, operational reliability, and personnel safety.
As high hazard facilities, biofuels sites should focus on developing a fire protections strategy informed by performance-based analysis so strategies implemented meet the unique challenges found at each facility.
