About Us
Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or Hazard Identification & Risk Analysis (HIRA) is a vital method aimed at identifying and evaluating potential risks associated with the handling and processing of hazardous materials. Using different hazard identification techniques will help your team recognize and understand the major accident hazards associated with your operations. PHAs/HIRAs come in various forms, ranging from qualitative to semi-quantitative and fully quantitative approaches, all designed to furnish crucial information to enhance safety decisions for workers and employers.
PHA Capabilities
With a proven track record across various process industries, including numerous types of industries, ranging from oil and gas to fertilizer manufacturing to pharmaceuticals, our PHA analyses not only serve as invaluable risk-assessment tools but also serve to address high-risk scenario concerns.
BakerRisk’s PHA studies fully comply with corporate and local regulations, including OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119 requirements and CCPS best practices, as well as the risk identification, management, and reduction principles applied in UK and EU regulations. By utilizing PHA methodologies like HAZOP and LOPA in conjunction with our proprietary PHA-Tool software, BakerRisk’s experienced facilitators have the expertise and tools to deliver robust standalone process hazard analyses with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) targets for safety functions.

BakerRisk’s PHA-Tool© is a comprehensive software suite designed to help facilitators efficiently conduct a process hazard analysis using various methodologies, including HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, and others. Developed by our in-house process hazard analysis experts, the PHA-tool aids clients in meeting specific corporate standards and regulations while offering an intuitive, user-friendly experience.
Why PHA-Tool©?
With intuitive customization options, robust data management tools, and enhanced cataloging and security functionality, PHA-Tool adapts to allow the flexibility required to meet every organization’s unique guidelines.
Custom templates are easy to build for any PHA method of choice. Risk matrices can be configured to match all common formats and can be uniquely tailored to different types of consequences. Worksheet columns can easily be customized on either a per-study or per-node/system basis.
PHA-Tool© allows you to upload study-specific process information such as plot plans, PFDs, P&IDs, and other data to create a single, comprehensive database of applicable information. In addition, the IPLs, safeguards, and recommendations are easily tracked and parking lot items can quickly be added on the fly to track any outstanding issues. PHA-Tool©, which protects data with archiving and configurable auto-save functionality, also enables the user to ensure consistency between studies by freezing template settings behind password-protected security settings.
PHA-Tool© provides consistent professional reporting for your organization’s needs. The automatic reporting feature is customizable and allows information to be shared quickly and efficiently. PHA-Tool© allows information to be exported into HTML or Microsoft Excel formats.
Multiple types of PHA studies (What-if, HAZOP, Checklists, etc.) can be performed in a single PHA-Tool© file. HAZOP and What-If scenarios can easily be sent to the LOPA, or alternatively the LOPA can pull scenarios from other studies based on customized risk criteria. PHA-Tool©‘s straightforward layout, powerful editing features, and intuitive shortcuts make data recording more efficient. The PHA worksheets provide a clean layout to help facilitators, scribes, and team members keep focused during long PHA sessions.
