What we offer

Expert tools and methodologies.

We employ our robust consequence-based and risk-based facility siting study (FSS) methodologies, along with our cutting-edge proprietary software suite — SafeSite3G© for hazard consequences, QRATool© for risk assessment, and F&GTool© for detector location and coverage — to create optimal, defensible layouts for fire and gas detector placement.

We also perform CFD-based gas detection system studies for buildings, containers, or other enclosures (including those for electrolyzer and BESS systems). BakerRisk has performed a series of internal tests to determine the impact of wind and obstructions on detector capabilities. Internal test findings are incorporated into our models.

Safety is our #1 goal, which is why we employ knowledgeable experts like Murtaza Gandhi, who is part of the ISA TR84.00.07 working group and the principal member of NFPA 715. Our studies additionally meet vital industry standards, such as:

  • ISA TR84.00.07
  • IEC 60079-29-1
  • IEC 60079-29-4
  • IEC 60079-29-2
  • IEC 62990-1
  • BS60080-2020
  • NFPA 72

What our studies include:

  • Overall detector coverage (consequence and risk-based)
  • Detector placement optimization
  • Unit-specific detector system recommendations
  • Validation of coverage for currently installed detector systems
  • Risk reduction calculations where F&G systems are credited
  • Detailed detector specification development
  • Site support during the installation of detectors

Our coverage strategy

Our two-step approach for calculating unit coverage at your facility:

  1. We employ a high-level quantitative methodology based on consequence model results to define first-pass detector placement.
  2. These results are then optimized using a more detailed, risk-based quantitative approach based on ISA TR84.00.07, or the site’s risk-based FSS. This takes several factors into account, such as the likelihood of failure, ignition environments, occupancy, congestion/confinement, and other risk-based considerations to refine the number and positioning of detectors.

Utilizing quantitative risk assessment strategies and computational fluid dynamic analyses, BakerRisk conducts these studies to assess the effectiveness of existing detector systems, identify potential gaps, and guide strategic fire and gas detector placement.

Fire and Gas Tool (F&GTool©)

Advanced mapping software for detector layouts and appropriate scenario-based coverage.

By integrating data from consequence and risk-based FSS studies into our F&GTool© model and utilizing expertise from ISA’s latest performance-based fire and gas technical report (ISA TR84.00.07-2018), our team at BakerRisk’s reports are more detailed and can help clients make better safety decisions, as well as enhance strategies for release detection in processing units, enclosed structures, and more. The F&GTool© offers several key benefits for clients, including:

  • Creation of 3D consequence models for precise detector placement and coverage assessment
  • Comparison against BakerRisk’s rule set and algorithms, ensuring target-specific optimal coverage
  • Comprehensive assessment of various risk-based factors, including failure, ignition environments, occupancy, and congestion/confinement
