What is Functional Safety?

Functional Safety provides assurance that critical safety functions, such as a high-level trip or a machinery emergency shutdown, act as intended with the required integrity. The integrity is determined and maintained through Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) / Probability of Failure per Hour (PFH) and Systematic Capability (SC).

Our Functional Safety capabilities comprise a multitude of services, including:

  • Functional Safety assessments, Stages 1-5, using current best engineering practices.
  • The preparation of safety requirement specifications in accordance with IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 / IEC 62061 Functional Safety standards.
  • Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), and Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA).
  • Safety-related, control, and instrument systems functional specification and acceptance criterion specification.
  • Safety-related, control, and instrument systems validation, compliance, verification and retrospective evaluation of legacy systems to IEC 61511.
  • Functional Safety Management and consulting include auditing and design of safety management systems.
  • IEC 61508 / IEC 61511 compliance auditing by registered lead auditors.
  • Functional Safety Management System (FSM) and template development.
  • Functional safety support and mentoring services.
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and LOPA facilitation & scribing services
